World of Self Publishing
Naturally, the world of self-publishing appears to be a David vs Goliath setting where the choice of going at it on your own is only made after you have failed at the traditional route.
Certainly, this is not the case!
Many writers and authors want to have more control over the process of publishing and the royalties. This is where the publication of media is at its finest. Self-publishing can be done in the form of an Ebook or a POD (Print on Demand).
In the traditional publishing model, the publisher takes on most of the cost and risks but they retain the profits of the book.
In self-publishing, the author takes on the risks and costs but earns a higher share of the profit. Even with going at it on your own, you need a platform to sell your books. These include Amazon, Kindle, Goodreads, and more. You upload your book, once you have a cover and it has been formatted to meet the details of the platform.
In the last twenty years, self-publishing has become a $1-2 billion dollar industry. Technology and distribution have advanced exponentially. The barriers to publishing are falling, but the quality of work varies considerably. If you want to shine above others, produce a good product, edit, and format properly, and learn to market your book.
